Investigating Choice Time: Inquiry, Exploration, and Play

Last week I heard Diane Ravitch talk about her concerns about the current state of public education: the Common Core, high stakes testing, charter schools. She has spelled out her concerns in her latest book, “The Reign of Error”. Her sense of urgency is reflected in her travel schedule – she has presented in 11 cities in the last two weeks, and was headed to Michigan the next day. Her advice to parents at the meeting I attended was to OPT OUT OF TESTING.
Wendy, do parents always have the option of opting out? What happens in terms of applying for middle schools? Also, what does she say about the stress on kindergarten children? I really must read that book! Thanks for sharing this.
